Meet the Founder
Educator. Author. Strategist. Community builder.
Brenda Ortiz McGrath is an educational leader, author, speaker, leadership strategist, and community builder whose work is rooted in identity, belonging, student wellness, and systems transformation.
Her leadership journey has never followed one traditional path. Brenda has served students, families, educators, schools, and communities through roles that have included school social worker, school leader, district administrator, consultant, elected School Committee member, children’s book author, and founder of emerging leadership frameworks and innovations.
Across every role, her work has remained grounded in one belief: leadership is not only about systems, strategy, or titles. It is about people. It is about creating conditions where individuals feel seen, valued, supported, and empowered to thrive.
Brenda’s perspective is shaped by her Puerto Rican heritage, her experience leading in urban education, her commitment to student and family voice, and her belief that culture is not separate from leadership — it is one of its greatest sources of strength.
MijaLumbre was born from that belief. It reflects Brenda’s lifelong commitment to helping leaders lead from the fullness of who they are while building communities, organizations, and systems rooted in courage, belonging, humanity, and legacy.
